I Want to Diffuse Essential Oils, But I Don’t Know Where to Begin! – A Two Part Series; Post 1 of 2

I want to diffuse essential oils, but I don’t know where to begin!  Can you help me?

Wikipedia says diffusion is the net movement of molecules or atoms from a region of high concentration to a low concentration.  It comes from the Latin word, diffundere, which means “to spread out” (a substance that “spreads out” is moving from a high concentration to a low concentration),

Is it Safe to Diffuse Essential Oils Around My Family?

    • Only a very small amount of essential oils are used during diffusion. The essential oils are distributed as molecules through the air.  Once in the air, they are inhaled and come into contact with nerves that send them to our brain.  Because such a small amount of essential oil actually reaches the body, it is fairly safe for everyone – even children.
    • Be aware of your choice of essential oils around children and the elderly. They are more vulnerable.
    • Citrus oils are safe to diffuse around just about everyone.
    • Note: Be mindful when diffusing essential oils in public spaces like an office or waiting rooms, since you are subjecting everyone to aromas they may not want or appreciate.

How Can I Diffuse Essential Oils?

    • There are many ways to get the essential oil molecules into the air – from waving a tissue or cotton ball under your nose to using an ultrasonic diffuser with lights, (bells and whistles!).

Which is the best way to diffuse essential oils?

    • Well that all depends on the situation, the place and ultimately, it comes down to personal choice. What works for one person, may not work for another person and what works in one situation, may not work in another.

Watch for part two of this Diffusing Essential Oils series (should post next week).  If you want to learn more about essential oils, how to use them and diffusing, register for the next Therapeutic Uses of Essential Oils class June 3-4, 2017.  Hope to see you there!
