Prepare to welcome the new moon as it graces the skies above the Northland of Minnesota on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 4:00 am. This celestial event marks a profound moment in our lunar cycle. This is where the moon’s orbit brings it between the earth and the sun. The moon presents its darkened surface to our earthly gaze.
As we observe this cosmic dance, let us also turn our attention inward and explore the subtle yet impactful effects of the new moon on our bodies and spirits. During this phase of low light, it’s common to experience a sense of introspection and lowered energy levels. Consequently, it’s a time when many of us feel drawn to quiet reflection and self-care.
Personally, I find solace in embracing the introspective nature of the new moon. As I prepare for this weekend’s activities, I eagerly anticipate indulging in some much-needed introvert time. To nurture my body and spirit, I’ve scheduled a Chakra Balancing Massage at our local spa and am considering a 6-month membership to prioritize self-care throughout the year.
Saturday is dedicated to what I call “New Moon Medicine,” where this month, I focus on creating blends of sprays, bath salts, and diffuser blends to enhance relaxation and support sleep. These preparations serve as a tangible reminder of the new beginnings symbolized by the new moon—a time to plant seeds of intention for the month ahead.
Setting clear intentions for the future is a key practice during the new moon phase. For me, this involves committing to a healthy bedtime routine aimed at achieving 7 to 8 hours of restorative sleep each night. Evening baths, creating a tranquil sleeping environment, and carving out quiet time before bed are essential components of this ritual.
Among the offerings in my self-care arsenal are three varieties of bath salts, each infused with essential oils known for their relaxation and sleep-promoting properties, including Lavender, Chamomile Roman, Rose Damascena, Cedarwood, and Frankincense. Additionally, I’ve crafted room diffuser blends tailored for different purposes—springtime ambiance, restful sleep, and enhancing yoga practice—featuring a blend of Lavender, Ravintsara, Tea Tree, Rosalina, Chamomile Roman, Sweet Orange, Cardamom, and Frankincense.
To further enhance the ambiance of rest and relaxation, I’ve concocted a soothing Linen Spray infused with Lavender, Ylang Ylang, and Frankincense hydrosol—a delightful addition to my bedtime routine.
Beyond its physical manifestations, the new moon holds deep spiritual significance, particularly as it aligns with the imaginative and intuitive energies of Pisces. During this time, I reflect on what needs alignment in my life, inviting clarity and insight to guide me forward. I ponder questions of trust, surrender, and the interconnectedness of all things, recognizing that everything I desire is already within my grasp.
As we embrace the arrival of the new moon, let us honor its symbolism of renewal, reflection, and the infinite possibilities for growth and transformation that lie ahead. May this celestial event inspire us to nurture our bodies, minds, and spirits with compassion and intentionality, fostering a deeper connection to ourselves and the world around us.
